I took this photo the other day because I think that red leaves against snow look really amazing. I love things we can't explain. I watched a show the other day and this Botanist was explaining that they still don't know for sure why leaves turn red. Isn't that interesting? I just assumed that red leaves were explained years ago. Botanists have two main theories. 1. The red works as a sun screen which allows the leaves to absorb the sun without being destroyed in their weak state during the fall and 2. The red acts as a warning to bugs that want to feast on their leaves; the red makes the bugs look elsewhere for their meals. So the next time you take a look at a tree with red leaves think about the fact that nature still holds a lot of incredible secrets.
